A Watershed Assessment is a collection of all existing available public
information relating to the health and well being of the natural resources
within the geographic area of the watershed. The initial Seven Basins
Watershed Assessment was completed in 2004 by Environmental Management
Services, Inc., under contract with the Seven Basins Watershed Council,
funded by a grant from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB).
The purpose of the watershed assessment is threefold. First, it provides
a
compilation of basic information regarding the environmental characteristics
of the Seven Basins Watershed. Secondly, it identifies data gaps and
makes
recommendations for the development of action plans that will address
the
data gaps. These two goals are typically developed and presented in
most
watershed assessments. However, the Seven Basins Watershed Council
envisioned an assessment that was more than just a compilation of facts;
they wanted a document that could be used to educate themselves and
other
stakeholders in the watershed. Thus, the third purpose of this assessment
is that it provides an introduction to some of the basic physical, chemical,
and biological processes that control factors, such as, slope stability;
sediment production and transport; water quality; water quantity; stream
flow; groundwater flow; and surface water/groundwater interaction.
The Seven Basins Watershed Assessment is available to the public on
CD by request to the Council. It is also
available in Adobe PDF format for download here. The PDF file of the
full entire document is quite large, 36,127KB, and is not quickly accessed
by dial-up modem. Visitors to this page using dial-up modems may prefer
to download just smaller particular sections of interest, available
separately from within the Table of Contents below.
